The North Harbour Open was run from 25-27 June with a very large entry of 98 players. With the restictions of worldwide overseas travel, we had the pleasure of hosting Hsuan-Yu (Wendy) Chen from Australia who is participating at the Tokyo Olympics later this month. Wendy, as many International badminton players around the world, have not had the luxury of playing in tournaments in preparation for their Olympic appearance. It was agreed that Wendy could play at the North Harbour Open in both the women’s singles and men’s singles in order to assist in her match play preparation.
The second ‘first’ for Badminton North Harbour was the two court full tournament live streaming. We had positive feedback from the public saying it was very helpful to be able to watch matches live wherever they were in New Zealand or around the world.
North Harbour as an association did very well with our players featuring in four of the five finals.
