North Harbour’s Oscar Guo is ready to take on the best badminton has to offer at the 2019 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires. After some encouraging results at the recent Australian Junior International 2018 and the Sydney International 2018, Oscar is ready to hit the ground running in South America.
Oscar won the men’s singles at the Australian Junior International, and had a convincing first round win at the Sydney International against Joshua Jian Min KHONG (AUS) 21-9 21-10. In the second round Oscar faced the # 3 seed from Vietnam, Cao Cuong PHAM. For such a young player, Oscar showed all his badminton skill and a cool head to win the first game 16-21. Forever putting up a great fight, it was not to be this time with the experience of the Vietnamese player coming through, helping him to win the following two games 21-14 21-17.
The International experience of recent tournaments will be an important aspect of Oscar’s road to Buenos Aires and the opportunity to shine on a world stage.
